Well I was you know I was you know for 6 of the 11 years of my racing career I was an endurance racer so I raced a lot of 24 hour races so I’m very interested to see uh you know how the Audi team went about uh preparing for their attempt to win their 5th straight ?, and uh I just wanted to see that you know, I know there are a lot of differences between how their team prepared and always how my team prepared for my 24 hour uh events but uh I really want to see what they really are. |

I don’t have any stories in particular that have, I don’t have any sort of stories that are fit for human consumption, but no he’s a sweet sweet guy, Mickey, he’s a really really nice man you know and uh I just you know I hope that he’s… the word on the street about this movie is that he’s absolutely amazing in it and I look forward to seeing it. |

Oh I actually don’t know him personally but um it should be an interesting you know I mean that’s greatm, yeah we’ll just be cutting out. I don’t know him personally but he’s a great actor. He’s got so much stuff going on on screen, I mean he could literally not say a word and you could have a whole story there, so congrats to him. |

You know it’s funny because as a kid I wasn’t much into that. I had a lot my buddies who were like, “Yeah we gotta go to that wrestling match,” you know growing up in Louisiana and Denver and whatnot, but I don’t know, I think uh…(Talks) Yeah no no um I mean the Hulk because he’s a legend, and who is Steve, uh, Prettyboy something (talks) Steve Austin, yeah, I think that, you know, he doesn’t stand a chance I mean I’m like 6’3”, I’ve been working out. No no. you know I never got into the wrestling thing, yeah that’d be interesting. I’ve never been asked that question. I’ll just check that off the list. |

Well I mean, that’s really a question for Darren I would guess but um, when he came to me he said that he had an idea he had been holding onto for a long time that he thought would be great for me to develop with him. He always wanted to make a film about a professional wrestler, and we didn’t know exactly where the film would begin or what type of film to make um we just knew that that was kind of the starting point and um we did a lot of research, went to a lot of wresting shows, and you know to find the character we wanted to make a film about or the type of wrestler we wanted to make the film about you know wrestling being the type of business that it is it’s kind of hard to make one about a superstar wrestler because that world is so controlled and whatnot so we dug a little deeper and went to some of the indie circuits and found a lot of color and a lot of character in there. |

Genius, well once we had the story set, well you know his idea to cast Mickey Rourke well, once we had the story settled on as to what, you know, it needs a general sense of Randy “The Ram’s” journey made perfect sense, I mean once we had Mickey in our heads that this, the project really hit a momentum. |

{talks} Oh let’s see I’m trying to think of one that hasn’t been shared already. Well when we were shooting the scene where Randy “The Ram’s” working the deli counter and he cuts his thumb open, um very very tense day. Mickey had a hard time. Not a hard time, but it wasn’t’ one of the scenes in the film that he’s very excited about shooting um you know working a deli counter and whatnot. For some reason it was something, I don’t know, too personal reason but um and the technicality and the blood and the prosthetics, it was just a really really tense day on set and the first take comes and blood shoots all over the place and just you know looked like a horror movie, way too much blood, and the next one he cuts his finger and the blood doesn’t come out, you know, each take that he does that he runs out of the supermarket. After 2 takes you know everyone’s yelling at this one or yelling at that one. There’s just so much attention on the set that it just made you feel the need to break up[ attention so when he ran out of the supermkaret he got into a car and drove off, and we were all getting ready for the next take and ready to roll, and okay “Bring in Mickey.” And I was like, “Wait, where’s Mickey?” WE didn’t know where he was. He went back to his trailer, and having a smoke, and came back and you know it was just a prank he kind of pulled on everyone just to kind of lighten the mood on the set and it worked, you know we got through Dave. |

I feel blessed, I feel delighted, I feel thankful, I feel grateful, I feel it doesn’t feel like, it’s take 15 years so it’s something that didn’t happen overnight, something that I kind of stopped hoping and dreaming about. I had a little bit of hope but not much faith that it would happen again because I was so bad for so many years. |

I wanted to work with Darren and Darren and I worked on rewriting the script and making it as close to as what we both wanted. We wanted to make a movie that would show the side of a sport and also we wanted to um we wanted to also do a film that honors the sport as well as show a character that’s days has sort of come and gone you know they want to put him on the bench but one more shot, he still wants it, a dream to come back again. |

What made me want to do this role? Um well there were a number of factors, I certainly wasn’t jumping in right away, I definitely had a good long think about whether I was going to go there with this film, um but ultimately it was Darren, the director, and always comes down to the director. Do I trust him? Do I, I’m interested in what he has to say and he’s a real visionary. |

Um you know I think it would be a story really about his kindness. I think it’s just a story about, oh my hair’s falling apart? That’s very kind of you. My hair was falling apart one of the guys told me, thanks. Um, yeah I mean it isn’t about his machismo which is legendary or his talent which is also, but more about when I also had to do some kind of vulnerable things in this film that he uh made me feel really at home and he was very uh he’s supportive, he sent me flowers, he when I had to do my lap dances, he was like, got up and was doing his. Things just things that made me feel at ease and broke the ice. |

Well my husband, who’s that kind of guy right there with talking to that cute girl, my husband and Mickey Rourke went to high school together and as my husband said, in Miami beach, there were you know Jewish kids, and Cuban kids, and Mickey. So Mickey was the one Irish guy and Mitch just fell in love with him and they became dear friends. Years later I met Mickey during the desperate hours with Michael Chamino and I had just started dating Mitch and you know that was like a good in with Mickey because Mickey loves Mitch so that was really, and we had an incredible experience during the movie together and I really was I was working with our Marlon Brando you know he was just the most amazing actor and actually a great dear person, a really incredible person. He’s been a loyal friend and I’ve watched his career, the ebbs and flows of his career and his integrity and he said no to almost all movies for 2 decades, you know he could have made a lot of money but he just didn’t want to sell out you know, so. |

I have no doubt he’s going to get nominated and he may win because he deserves an Oscar for so many movies that he’s done and he’s just consistently been great even if the movie’s weren’t great he was always great and he is great you know and he’s, and in the acting community we adore him, whether you know him or not, all actors would just say Mickey, you know. |

Well he invited me to dinner one night when we were working together and we were in Utah doing The Desperate Hours years ago and we were snowed in, like we were snowed in, I couldn’t leave, I was with you know his posse, which are all these guys. Um and they had a billion motorcycles, but we were snowed in into his chalet, I was with like 10 guys, and he said, “Let’s call Mitch.” So we call, we also had a couple bottles of wine. We called Mitch like, you’re girlfriend’s great, we’re snowed in. It was so funny, it was such a mean funny thing to do. He must’ve called us back 30 times so you’re just like, where are you sleeping? I’m actually on the couch right now. Everything is okay. But we kind of gave him a hard time for awhile, we were trying to you know. |

Um I think Gisele Bunchen because she’s so skinny I could probably really, it would be like a mud wrestling thing, but she’s I’m very slim, I just saw her, she’s half my size, I could take her. |

Why Mickey Rourke? Look at that. {laughs} Yeah, um, you know what? It was, it’s a hard role to fill. Someone who could pull off the physicality you know to get the size, and then someone to get the emotional uh requirements of the script, it was just a very hard role to fill. And the thing about Mickey that was great for me was that you know and not great for him was that he hasn’t worked that much in the last 15 years so it was a real surprise for people to see what he can do and he just, the film shows he never lost that talent, he’s one of the unique leading men, and it was a thrill to work with him every day. |
00:39:43 2368.67 |
Sound Bite: Darren Aronofsky
Well so much of the film was just improvised and just Mickey was always there and just wild with it so there’s one scene that’s kind of a big scene in which a supermarket, he works a deli counter and uh we just started to realize, it was a low budget film to show up at the supermarket so there were real people coming up and Mickey just started serving them and then afterwards would be do you want to be in the movie? So it turned out to be a little bit of a Borat type of a situation and it was fun. |

There aren’t really any funny stories because all of our scenes are very dramatic. Um I don’t know, I had to be kind of a tough girl on set because I have a scene where I’m throwing things at Mickey and I picked up a soda can and squeezed it so hard it sliced my finger open and I had to superglue it back together so we could keep going um but I had the option of going to the hospital but you know there’s Mickey Rourke right there and I’m like no superglue it, I’m, whatever, it’s yeah so. |

Um uh I don’t know, Angelina Jolie. She might kill me though but I could be killed by her, it’s cool. No she definitely kick my ass but I would definitely take it haha. |
