Well this event is basically about celebrating the accomplishments of women in Hollywood. When we started the issue 15 years ago, I think in the first issue there weren’t even 50 women that we covered. So now you got women that are across the board working in the entertainment industry. And this is really just to celebrate their accomplishments. |

We decided to do that when Sherry Lansing retired 2 years ago. She was such a force in the industry. She is someone that was really a ground breaker, she blazed trails for women and we wanted to honor her by naming an award after her. |

I think Meryl Streep is the best actress living right now and she is somebody who is very versatile and does a lot of work for charities. Her work in Equality Now is really admirable. Especially for someone that works a lot to make the time to donate their time is the biggest sacrifice they can make. So she is somebody that we wanted to honor. |

It is an incredible group of women. I mean it really is an honor to be with these women. Especially a lot of them are dear friends of mine so its…. It’s really an honor to be included with this group and I love the comrodery of all these women and a lot of them are dear friends of mine so it is also going to be a fun breakfast. |

Film Independent produces the Spirit Awards and just at this last nominations we nominated Robert Altman’s Prairie Home Companion, in honor of Robert Altman and it is so great to see Meryl Streep work with Independent Films and see her work with great studio films like Devil Wears Prada and she’s been an independent voice in addition to being an extraordinary talent, her whole career. I’m a big fan. |

Especially…I work in independent film and that is such a great platform for smart stories, unique voices and that is a great way for women to find their footing. And to be able to tell personal stories. So I really recommend, certainly making as many contacts as you can but also looking at how you can work you can develop your own voice. And I think that is what independent film allows you to do. |

Well it is pretty exciting. At first I thought they got it wrong. I was like, wow, am I in this group because it is very amazing group to be in. Because you look at it and there are so many women making so many different kinds of decisions everyday and really important positions that cover everything in the industry. So to me, to get in a group of 100 of the important decision makers it is pretty impressive. |

I think no job is too small because I think if you start at the ground level on up you really do learn what makes this industry so strong and powerful. I think sometimes the best opportunity can be the smallest one because I started out painting sets and to get on the creative end all the way to the top is that I really understand those jobs and I think that is really important. |
00:13:30 774.67 |
HR Power 100 – Sound bite: Terry Wood
Yes, I think in a lot of ways because what she has done is she really has kept family in perspective while she did it. She is a really accomplished person but yet she always…she took time off to be with her kids. She found a way to balance it. It is very important to me because I have a seven year old daughter so to see someone with great success who is trying to balance it is so important because I think you can have both. (talk) Because a lot of people say you have to have one or the other but I don’t believe that. I believe you can be a great mother and a great executive at the same time. On the way here, I was thinking what I accomplished this morning. I fed the dog, I made the oatmeal and I got here and I’m put together and I think that is an accomplishment. |

It feels so great. I love coming to this event. I was here a few years ago and I just think that it is a really important event and I always leave feeling so inspired and it is a really great thing to be a part of and I’m really lucky because I get to work with experienced powerful women all the time just on with my work and being on the show so I see that all the time and it is great. |

I think Meryl is a role model for a lot of us actors. The diverse parts she has done throughout the years. Her grace really. And when I think when I meet her I’ll fall down and die. |

I would say that the greatest advise you can get is to absolutely believe in yourself. Have a hundred percent conviction in what you are doing and why you are here and truly stand behind your choices. |

The great thing about being an actor is to play different roles and to be able to express yourself in different ways. I think you look at Cate Blanchett who is in my opinion the future Meryl Streep of our generation and you see…you look at her work and it is so diverse and so intricate and so interesting to watch her always. No matter what she is doing. She is not only an actress that can do drama, she can do comedy and it is so amazing to watch her that you really get a sense of how unlimited to be as an actor. |

I feel so powerful…no. I’m just honored to be among this extraordinary group of women. 20 years ago when I was at graduate school in the Peter Star program in USC, I used to volunteer waitress at the women in film events just so I could be around women like this. So to be included like this is extraordinary. |

Just go for it, find stories you love to tell. Know that…watch films, love films, know film makers, know film and it’ll all work out. If you are passionate about what you are making. If you are passionate about the stories you want to tell, it’ll all work out. |

Meryl Streep defines a star that is a strong woman. From every decade she has worked in she has been a revalation. Whether she is hilarious funny in Prada and just a pitch perfect turn or you know starting off in the mini-series Holocaust which was an incredible experience for me, I remember seeing it as a kid. Or Sophie’s Choice or any of the things she’s always taken on the roles of strong smart complex women and brought even more to them than you can imagine. |

You know, she is not that funny. She is serious because she deals with the money and she does it in a really graceful way and she’s unique among a lot of executives in that a lot of people love her and admire the way she conducted her business life and that is something to be proud of. |

Cool, it’s cool. It is really really nice and Ford is one of the sponser’s of this and she is one of the highest ranking females in the industry and it is great to be surrounded by…you know that is Meryl Streep man. You know and Sherry Lansing…these are women that have helped and shaped history and here we are to be powerful. |

Eat, stop starving yourself, one. You won’t get anything done unless you eat. You know, take control. Take some…feel your power. Don’t ever give it away because once you give it away you never get it back. You have a lot more power than you think. |
00:30:14 1778.67 |
HR Power 100 – Sound bite: Sherry Lansing
Well I think it is great. I think it is a celebration of how far we have come. When this event first started, we were lucky if we got 50 women. Now we have to turn women away because the ballroom can’t accomidate everybody. So I view it as a celebration and I view it as a support network where women are really joyous for each other and whether you are on the list or not on the list, it really doesn’t make any difference, you are making a huge contribution. |
00:30:46 1810.67 |
HR Power 100 – Sound bite: Sherry Lansing
I have tremendous words of encouragement, it is a phenomenal business and I guess what I would suggest to them that they concentrate on the work. Concentrate on the movie they are making, the television show they are making and don’t worry about anything else. Have almost tunnel vision and have really good quality work and if you do that the results will come in your career. But try to get all that other stuff out of the way. |
00:31:20 1844.67 |
HR Power 100 – Sound bite: Sherry Lansing
In all ways. I think Meryl is probably the iconic figure for actors and actress. I don’t think it is a sexist thing. I think there is nobody that does it better, you know, in terms of acting. But equally as important that she has managed to juggle her life and make choices. She is not afraid to speak out in social causes she believes in and she has been happily married to the same man and has a family so she has done it all and she has done it all extraordinarily well. I actually idolize her so it is a real thrill for me to give her this award. We go back a very long way. We both started with a movie called Kramer Vs. Kramer, over 25 years ago and to see the continual genius of her work is really awesome. |
