Sound Bite: Penelope Cruz
I love Barcelona; I’ve shot there 3 times, 2 times before this movie. And I don’t know the city very well yet because I’ve always been working when I’ve been there most of the time and and so with a character like Maria Elena I, I was not even aware we were doing a comedy, I thought this movie was, I mean not when I read it but making it, I felt it was a very very sad drama and then when I saw it with an audience and I think its so clever of Woody to make all the actors forget when when were doing scenes it can be funny and we really forgot and no one was laughing on the set and then when people see the movie they laugh so hard. That has been a very beautiful surprise. |

In: 09.15.30 Out: 09.16.35 Sound Bite: Penelope Cruz Well Maria Elena every time she comes into a scene she has to bring chaos with her and she doesn’t have any moments of peace and sometimes I asked Woody to, sometimes I would come in the morning with a proposal of doing one of the scenes a little more discrete, a little more quiet, giving her a little bit of time to, to to breathe and to rest and he said no way we can do it that way if you want, we can try it cause he’s very respectful to the actors but Woody would be very specific about wanting the fights to be very big and Maria Elena to be very loud and very extroverted and very extreme in everything he does and I think he’s completely right because all the fights are much funnier if all the characters have that much energy. So of course he was right {Laughs |
