In: 04.07.11 Out: 04.07.36 Sound Bite: Diane English Yeah it’s been a mission for 14 years you know because it’s an all female cast and the old movie featured an all female cast, not a man in the movie anywhere, even in the background and it was just a fun conceit but you know really hard to do in modern times because the movie industry is not particularly friendly to that idea so it took a long time to raise the money. |

In: 04.07.41 Out: 04.08.12 Sound Bite: Diane English Well I think there’s certain touchstone scenes some really fun scenes that people enjoy from the original movie that I knew I wanted to incorporate in mine um so scenes, the scene between Ava and um Meg Ryan’s daughter, the bathtub bathroom scene, the lingerie dressing room scene, um of course Jungle Red, the manicurist, all of that, I mean people that are fans of the old movie will definitely recognize those things in the new movie. |

In: 04.08.21 Out: 04.08.54 Sound Bite: Diane English No we didn’t miss having male actors um we had a great crew that was filled with men and we love our men and it was great having them around um but because we were kind of troop we became a tribe you know of this female tribe um it was like a girl’s night out you know every night, and it was um, it was just fun, it was a very nurturing environment and you know just a very special experience. |

In: 04.09.03 Out: 04.09.43 Sound Bite: Diane English Uh no they didn’t surprise me at all because they are all some of the finest actresses um that we have and so I wasn’t surprised by that but we we kind of created a chemistry when we brought all of the actresses to my house in Martha’s Vineyard for five days, they didn’t really know each other very well at all and then at the end of the five days we had all bonded, we had spent a lot of time rehearsing, telling our personal stories, spilling secrets, going shopping together, you know it was a great experience and I think that shows up on screen. |

In: 04.09.43 Out: 04.10.07 Sound Bite: Diane English He is one of the producers, yes, um Victoria Pairman who is the president of his film company was the hands on producer for this film and Mick definitely gave his blessing, loved the script, um has seen the finished movie, really loved it, watched it with his youngest daughter and um and uh was, opened a lot of doors for us. |

In: 04.10.16 Out: 04.10.59 Sound Bite: Diane English Yeah you know the financial model of Hollywood these days is that you know you have to raise money based on a name you know, who’s in it, so it’s much easier when you’ve got a Tom Hanks or a Tom Cruise or a Mel Gibson or you know any one of those guys, a Will Smith, you know that’s kind of a slam dunk, but with women it’s a little different, there’s a prejudice there and so you know this is our mission to show Hollywood that we can we can bring money into the box office too and maybe it’ll be a little easier for the next woman who wants to um direct a female ensemble to get the financing and the backing. |
