Oh no brainer, no brainer that’s that’s something that I will never have the power to turn down, you know I mean Dr. Seuss is such a part of my childhood and uh to me its an honor to be connected to it in anyway whatsoever because he was so alternative you know he was Rock and Roll I mean he’s you know when I was a kid not only is he telling you important things but at the same time he’s doing it in such a way that’s so out there. That you know it’s a very hip thing to me. |

I’m sure it had something to do with it when you look at the creativity like that and go wow I can really do anything I want, I don’t have to stay within the parameters of puerility you know, this is uh, I can stretch it as far as I want to stretch it you know as long as I’m saying what I wanna say. (talks) exactly and there’s always that voice out there who will tell you that you cant do it, that you cant be you know uh creative, you cant do things that are out of the normal forms you know and I say the hell with form you know it really, when Ace Ventura came out I got a lot of criticism that he wasn’t a real character and all these things and I, I went if you know what he was if you go back and look at that movie what was he was a smart bird and that’s all I wanted to do in that movie, I wanted to do a bird and that’s what I did and if you go back and see the walk and the sunflower eating and the way he talked he was, he was a parakeet or a cockatiel or you know the proud you know smart bird who mocked everything (talks) |

I’m never locked into something though, I don’t believe in it. No, No, I believe that you, you know you put the work out first and then people form an opinion of who they think you are or what they want to label as afterwards and you know you cant try and second guess them you know and if you do you become very boring as an artist, you just start ‘well gee I wonder what they want to do’ and uh that will never fly even with the people that want it. They’ll be the first people going ‘oh he’s boring, doing the same thing every time’. |

Yeah but still I mean the fact that the material gathers such incredible talent it says something about doctor Seuss you know and about this process and about these guys who do this work you know I mean everybody, it’s a who’s who of uh of comedy through five generations, I mean its, everybody from Jonah Hill to Carol Burnett and everybody in-between. (talks) We all, I’ve met her many times in the past (talks) we’ve run into each other at Tucana (talks) yeah but I’ve always been a huge fan of hers you know and she’s like just part of my childhood which was huge. |

It’s like radio, its radio (talks) oh yeah when I’m screaming and yelling in the film, I’m physically exhorting myself to the point of like oh geez you know I mean, I, it is a very physical thing, people don’t understand, they think its kind of easy to do this stuff and they’ll tell you its easy when they come and ask you to do the project, they’ll say like there’s nothing to it man, it’s a couple hours in and out, like that and then you know five months later you’re still plugging away and still coming up with stuff. And it, but it’s a fascinating process and great really wonderful creative people you know Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino (talks) yeah they’re wonderful childlike entities you know and uh Steve Martino’s sitting there animating while I’m performing you know so every time I would finish a sequence he would turn around and show me how Horton was doing it and you know he would try to capture the different expressions that I go through and they’d always have a video camera there as well capturing expression. |
