Electromagnet train, "Maglev". Informational film about the train and its benefits to society as well as how the system works.
Maglev (derived from magnetic levitation), is a system of train transportation that uses two sets of electromagnets: one set to repel and push the train up off the track, and another set to move the elevated train ahead, taking advantage of the lack of friction. Such trains rise approximately 10 centimetres (4 in) off the track.
The failure of Transrapid in Europe can be attributed to a combination of high construction costs, political and bureaucratic challenges, competition from conventional high-speed rail systems, noise and vibration concerns, and the impact of the global financial crisis.
