I think the rest of the world should know about Russian cinema is that it’s unique, even it tries to be more commercialized, and it’s also good because on the surface it’s very new for us and everybody likes now to count and it’s uh on the criteria for film now, but anyway we have to remember with the rest of the world it’s a unique cinema, an art cinema, and we have 4 films here at Cannes, not in competition not in the main, but 2 films here in the competiton. (talks) uh it was uh Alexandra from Alexandra Sokorov and it was film, I don’t remember the name, ? film uh and he’s actor, ? was best actor of the festival last year, so we have some really good points to be here in Cannes and we love Cannes film festival. It’s the best in the world.

I think it’s more difficult now for directors to be interesting and for screenwriters as well because you have to fight the censorship, and to fight the censorship everybody had to be very inventive, very sharp. That sharpness to me has died down a little bit because there’s nothing really to fight, there’s nothing to rebel against. Cinema is cinema of true emotion, rebellion is true emotion, yeah.

Well I’m a producer and I’m an independent producer who’s well known in the United States. I’m a Russian obviously, but this year I made my directorial debut about Joseph Stalin’s daughter, Svetlana ?, and surprisingly enough she lives in Wisconsin. So it made a splash in the news in the former Soviet Union and um uh I actually made it to Wikipedia thanks to that.
